PROJECT

WHY LENNA?

Because the change depends on each and every one of us.

An increase in demand for sustainable products will help trigger a larger supply of products such as LENNA, where the environmental concern is key.

We want to target not only those who already have strong environmental awareness, but also encourage those who are not yet aware of the urgent need for global sustainable consumption.

SUSTAINABLE

The future of the fashion industry will inevitably have to be reshaped in a more sustainable way – new materials, resources maximization, as well as new recycling and production policies focused on minimizing our impact on the environment, are fundamental for a sustainable growth.

We want to be part of this change and walk this path alongside our clients.

Due to our strong focus on environmental and animal welfare causes, we currently have partnerships with the following organizations: ANEFA, Quercus, Oceanos Sem Plásticos, SOS Animal and Zero Waste Lab.

Through these partnerships, our clients will be able to choose which organization and respective cause they want to support and really make a difference.

HANDMADE IN PORTUGAL

Due to the strong focus on high quality and technology, the Portuguese footwear sector nowadays means excellence at an international level, particularly in Europe, and it is currently one of the most relevant sectors for the Portuguese economy. The sector’s growth has generated an increase of around 20% in the level of employment in the last years.

Proudly handmade in Portugal, with sustainable materials and no animal suffering, our shoes have a unique design, with a wide range of colors available in both a flat and a high sole.

The quality and durability of materials are part of our secret, which is why our search for new materials and new production techniques – with a low impact on the environment – is a constant.

THE FOUNDERS

Nuno Cordeiro, João Glória and Mário Garcia Ribeiro have been childhood friends for almost twenty years. Given their entrepreneurial drive and their environmental awareness, they always knew they wanted to create a product with a mission to be part of the change they wanted to see in the world.

While on vacation with his girlfriend, a couple of years ago, Nuno noticed the calm way a local fisherman handled his fishing nets next to his wooden boat. This fisherman was wearing very basic handmade espadrilles, but it was the simplicity of that moment that raised a clear message: To what extent is our footwear industry following a sustainable path?

Nothing lasts forever and nature and human labor must be respected.

The holidays ended and Nuno went back to work, not forgetting the idea of one day having the courage to launch a product inspired by that fisherman, and as sustainable as possible.

Finally, the Covid-19 lockdowns allowed Nuno to challenge João and Mário to start their new venture that has proven to be as rewarding as it is challenging. The mission of having a positive impact on the environment and the ecosystems as well as in the Portuguese footwear industry, was clear.

The production process setup was tough and demanding. The Portuguese industry is not yet fully prepared for a vegan and sustainable production.

Nuno ended up leaving his previous job where he worked in investment banking, so he could be fully focused on the production process.

Mário is based in Switzerland – where he continues to work in the finance industry – but his eyes are always in Portugal to monitor the development of the brand.

João, a commercial pilot, now with spare time due to the Covid-19 pandemic, sees the brand as a source of pride and is constantly focused on searching for sustainable materials as well as on reducing the production footprint on the environment.

With strong complementary skills and backgrounds, these three childhood friends managed to materialize an apparent utopia in a fusion between the comfort and simplicity of espadrilles and the irreverence of sneakers.

LENNA are simple, versatile and timeless.

LESS IS MORE.
